Clinical Practice

Over the last ten years I have integrated my training as a psychoanalytical psychotherapy with my experience as a physician to help people manage their illnesses. Most of my patients have symptoms that have no clear basis in pathology and no obvious cause. These include abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, food intolerance, eating disorders, chronic fatigue, muscular aches and many many others. By investigating the relationship between fluctuations in the symptoms and life events and situations, I explore with my clients what the symptoms might represent and what it is in their personal history that makes certain situations difficult. This allows us to focus on the psychosocial factors that may be driving the symptoms. Talking about these issues in a relaxed and safe environment, can encourage the patient to view them in a different way and discover new opportunities for resolution.

I see patients privately both at The Claremont Hospital in Sheffield and at Share Psychotherapy.
